Terms of service
Plain terms for a family product. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you rely on it.
1. Who we are
These terms are between you and Kinfolk Tree, 110 16th Street, Suite 1400 #1034, Denver, CO 80202, United States, referred to here as "Kinfolktree", "we" and "us". By creating an account or joining a family you agree to them and to our Privacy policy.
2. Your account
- You must be 16 or older to create an account.
- Keep your sign-in to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. A member row in a tree represents one real person.
3. Your family
- A family is created by its first member and grows only through invitations. Invite people you actually trust; everyone in a family can see the family-visible vault and rooms.
- The family admin (and the vault lead, if one is set) can delete family-visible content and manage a deceased relative's vault. Direct messages are never visible to admins.
- The billing owner is whoever paid first. Plans stack: each paying member adds their own seats and storage to the family.
4. Your content
- You own what you add. We claim no rights in your stories, photos, recordings or messages beyond what is needed to store them, show them to your family, and back them up.
- You are responsible for having the right to share what you upload — including photos of other people, and recordings of relatives who are no longer here.
- You can edit and delete what you created at any time, and save a readable copy of the family's tree, stories and chat, or export the tree as a GEDCOM file, at any time.
- Private and scheduled vault entries are released only by you or, after your passing, by your family's admin or vault lead. We do not decide who is deceased; your family does.
5. Plans and payment
| Plan | Price | Seats | Vault storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sapling | Free | 2 | 250 MB (photos and voice notes; uploads need an email account) |
| Heritage | $9 / month | 5 | 25 GB |
| Forever | $199 once | 8 | 25 GB |
- Payments are processed by Stripe and appear on your statement as SUPERFLY LABS.
- Heritage renews monthly until you cancel. Cancelling stops future charges; your family keeps Heritage until the paid month ends, then returns to Sapling limits. Nothing is deleted when a plan lapses; you just cannot add beyond the free limits.
- Forever is a one-time purchase for that member's contribution to the family and is not refundable after 14 days.
- Refunds within 14 days of a first purchase: email us. Beyond that, at our discretion.
- Per-file uploads are capped at 750 MB. If a family reaches its storage limit, uploads pause until something is removed or another member adds a plan.
- We may change prices with 30 days' notice in the app. Changes never apply to a Forever purchase already made.
6. Rules
Do not use Kinfolktree to:
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, inside or outside your family;
- upload content you do not have the right to share, or that is illegal where you live;
- add real people to a tree who have asked not to be included;
- probe, overload or reverse-engineer the service, except for good-faith security research reported to us;
- resell access or create families for people who are not actually your family.
If a family cannot resolve a dispute about content, the family admin's decision stands within that family. We step in only for the rules above.
7. Ending things
- You can close your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete my account); your own content is removed immediately. To leave a family without closing your account, email us.
- We can suspend or close an account that breaks the rules. We will say why, and let you export first unless the law prevents it.
- If we ever shut Kinfolktree down, we will give at least 90 days' notice and keep export working until the end.
8. The legal part
- Kinfolktree is provided as is. We work hard to keep it running and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. Keep your own copies of anything irreplaceable; the export button exists for exactly that.
- To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Colorado, after we have both tried to sort it out by email first.
- If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may update these terms; material changes are announced in the app 30 days ahead.
